Zunyite Gemstones

by riyo de 08 Feb 2024
Zunyite is a rare mineral that belongs to the sorosilicate group. It was first discovered in 1890 in New Mexico, USA, near the town of Zuni, from which it gets its name. Zunyite gemstones are typically small and are mainly collected by mineral enthusiasts rather than being used in jewelry on a commercial scale.

The gemstone exhibits a range of colors including pink, reddish-brown, yellow, gray, and colorless. Its crystal structure is tetragonal, and it has a Mohs hardness of around 6.5 to 7, which makes it suitable for jewelry use if cut and set properly.

However, due to its rarity and lack of widespread recognition, Zunyite is not commonly used in jewelry-making compared to more popular gemstones like diamonds, rubies, or sapphires. Instead, it is valued more for its uniqueness and its appeal to collectors of rare minerals.
